“Mr. Smooth” live feat. Larry DeBari…”’Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”
The date was Oct. 7, 1988. “Mr. Smooth” was doing a live date at Cafe Metro in Teaneck, N.J. One of our selections that night was “ ‘Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers,” featuring the always amazing Larry DeBari on guitar! R.I.P. An audio recording was made that night. Accompanying the audio are still photos from the collections of Dave Gellis and Neil Capolongo. “Mr. Smooth” consists of Gregg D. Hollister-bass, vocal, Frank Elmo-tenor sax, John Gatti-keyboards, Larry DeBari-guitar, vocal, and Neil Capolongo-drums. “The Smoothettes” ( pictured ) are Britt Savage and Shelley Thomson. … The song was written by Stevie Wonder, and made famous by Jeff Beck. True to form, Larry plays it in his own inimitable style!

It seemed like a surreal scene out of "Apocalypse Now." Five U.S. Marines who made up a rock and roll band took to the stage in Vietnam, where the lead singer ripped off his shirt to expose a peace symbol shaved in the hair on his chest. Another member threw a smoke grenade into the audience as the band broke into Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze." The crowd of soldiers went wild. It was 1969, and S...

Back in 1973, was the song I sang to my girlfriend at the time, we got married and spending 51 years together together
Thank you for this post!!! I love this jazz version!
A notch or two above both Chicago and Tower of Power. More range, more punch and great vocals.
This song is so mellow, it really has a calming effect like not any other song, I remember listening this tune in the FM radio in the early days and it always was sounded amazingly good, , great song, even better memories 💙
my god, that's perfect....
I swear I thought this was a black man singing this!
Wow, that was so fantastic. RIP Larry Debari.
Effortless time changes! Awesome
What a band! What a song! What a singer! Phenomenal.xx❤️🎶

Siempre geniales 7nicos
Million dollar voice! ❤
This is so flat. !!!!!!!!
You make me so very happy beautiful Mary 🍇😘❤️❤️
Perhaps the best rock, jazz, blues fusion ever. This is just beautiful!
I love that man. He is incredible. I'm sorry that he's now retired but I'm so blessed that I got to see him😊 in person
The guy in the white trousers playing the trumpet he is enjoying himself.
GO LARRY!
The greatest
Not one original member from the first album. Only connection is David Clayton Thomas
One piece of classic music at least you can hear what he's singing 😊
Is who song this 1st Brenda Holloway from motown or him. Hers better, but he sound good too
Right on.
Merci beaucoup! Cela signifie beaucoup pour nous!
David Cayton -Thomas. One of the greatest singers in history. Unforgettable.
Esta es la historia del rock
Lo maxcimo lo amo mucho
When did Eddie Van Halen join Blood Sweat and Tears?
BS&T are so underrated. One of my favourite 60's bands without a doubt!
Diooooossss que canción tan guapa voz lletra música UNICA no hay palabras❤
Well, I turned it off after 2 minutes. Wanted to hear the song, not a guitar solo.
Still GR8
Rediscovered this classic recently, and it's my favorite BS&T song. Loved this arrangement, with the guitar riff and horns added before DCT rips into that final chorus.
Maestros brillantes todos.
Great musicians, however, ( 😂 no soul 😂 )
HE WAS ONE GREAT SINGER IN THE BAND. HIS VOICE IS STILL RECOGNISED FROM HIS YOUNGER DAYS ONLY MORE MATURE. THEY WERE A GREAT BAND AND SONGS THAT ARE UNIQUE & NEVER FORGOTTEN.
wooo! great John Hendricks cover.
I wish I could sing like David Clayton-Thomas. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
Live they are the best
I grew up with Larry. We were teenagers. I lived in Roxbury and he lived in Margaretville, NY. I roadied for Larry’s first band, Jasper with Larry, Gary Newcomb (bass), Mike Pedulla (drums/lunacy), Anthony Ploutz (organ) later Fred Harris (organ/flute). Larry, Mike and I (drums) all went to Berklee at the same time. After which Larry, Ray Ploutz (bass), Fred Harris and myself performed as Scratch and worked the Catskill Mountains. After Larry moved to New Jersey and started working with Phoebe Snow, we got together every now and then for gigs I booked in and around our respective home towns. I loved Larry and I know that he loved me. I miss him greatly and thank you for posting this. I performed this song with Larry as well. He was a supremely talented musician and a dear friend. Those were the days my friend. Those were the days.
So glad you enjoyed this, Dave…Those were the days, indeed!
